Art, Nature, & The Archeology of Expression
Art, Nature, & The Archeology of Expression
An 8-Week Community Workshop to Unearth Your Creativity
My friends,
A few months ago I was strolling through my neighborhood on what I call “a listening walk” and out of nowhere a beautiful insight emerged. The message was so simple and so subtle, “we receive ourselves, as we resource ourselves”.
Of course, leave it to the trees to whisper something like that.
Everytime I read it aloud, I hear something different. Sometimes the words feel like a fluid invitation, sometimes a poem, and if I am really listening inbetween the lines, I hear the spirit of Joanna Macy. She says that, “by refreshing our sense of belonging in the world, we widen the web of relationships that nourishes us and protects us from burnout.”
Wise words from a wise woman.
It feels almost too obvious to name the prescription necessary in order to mend our state of collective “burnout”. Yet, because you are here reading, and I am here writing, I would like to name that salve. We must recover and remember the essential nature of our spirit. We must play, we must marvel, we must listen, and most importantly we must slow down to smell the roses.
When I first began exploring my practice of Sēfari, I had absolutely no clue that what I was doing subconsciously was tracing the roots of my relationship with time. The only thing I knew for certain, was that I was meant to bring people with me into nature. More specifically, into the Ocean. I vaguely understood that what I felt pulled to do made little sense, and in truth this “calling” felt more than a little dangerous. Over the years, through the repetition and refinement of my work, my art, I began to realize just how much was changing within me. I felt more inspired, more connected, more alive. My primary offering, “re:birth,” was to my delight, wholeheartedly fulfilling its intentional destiny, both for the participants I was serving, as well as for myself.
Sēfari has become so much more than a business and throughout my time working with it as a living concept, I have learned about the importance of crafting intentional containers. Intentions are like sacred secrets, held and sometimes hidden within our hearts. When channeled in the direction of our creativity, intentions can be the vessels through which matter is seeded and nourished.
As I write this letter to you, I am considering how deep my love of language goes and how I am using my way with words to reach you. Language is the material we use to sculpt our communication. Writing and thinking, thinking and writing are portals to the most precious places. These are the landscapes that continue to beckon and it is from this terrain that I am extending to you a special invitation.
At the core of this message is my oldest & strongest desire. To feel a sense of belonging with like minded beings, who intuitively understand and celebrate that our world is filled with magic. This is the magic that weaves meaning into our lives, and that magic can be created through ritual and community.
